How do you standardise a variety of policies and procedures when your multi-academy trust is growing rapidly?

As Thinking Schools Academy Trust was growing, it was having to incorporate and manage a variety of policies, procedures and terms and conditions across the trust. Developing a standardised set of policies and procedures with them, helped them to gain more control and free up more time for central resources.

Thinking Schools Academy Trust (TSAT) is ranked the best multi-academy trust in the country for the performance of its secondary schools by the Department for Education. Operating in two hubs; Medway and Portsmouth, TSAT are transforming the life chances of young people through the application of a cognitive approach to education.

As a growing trust in Medway and in Portsmouth, the variety of policies and procedures from their multitude of schools was complicated to administer and a drain on their central resources. TSAT needed a standardised set of policies and procedures to set across their trust and they contacted us for help with this.

The Challenge

In order to alleviate the problems this caused and help develop a standardised set of policies and procedures across the trust, a dedicated HR consultant worked with the Trust’s HR lead over a number of weeks to understand what they wanted to achieve from their new documents, ensuring that they still met their legal requirements and minimised the possibility for future challenge. We also regularly review these policies with the Trust, ensuring they are still fit for purpose and meet any changes to legislation.

The Results

The new policies and procedures were then rolled out across the Trust which in turn has benefited the customer and in addition helped their HR consultant to provide even more tailored advice and support as they were integral to the development of the policies themselves. This has subsequently given the Trust more control and freed up time for their central resources.
