When your server is no longer fit for purpose, how do you find a cost-effective new solution?

As the largest public service trade union in the United Kingdom, with almost 1.4 million members and 12 branches, Unison is continuously looking to expand and find new ways to be more efficient.

The Maidstone branch of Unison contacted Cantium Business Solutions as they needed to find a new server solution and end-user IT support. The solution provided was tailored to Unison’s needs and budget, in alignment with their business growth strategy and to support their staff through remote working.

After speaking with a number of potential suppliers, Unison chose Cantium as their partner on this journey.

The Challenge

When we were initially approached by Unison’s Maidstone branch, they were utilizing a peer-to-peer workgroup for basic file and print sharing within the local office and were seeking a new solution to better assist their growing business and provide staff with greater working flexibility.

After working with key stakeholders within the Unison team, our IT Solutions Architects were able to strategically assess their requirements. Based on their budget, we were able to show them how they could save money, securely access their systems and files remotely and future proof their IT infrastructure. We seamlessly transferred Unison to a low-cost cloud-based solution utilizing Microsoft Office 365 functionality.

Moving to the cloud has enabled Unison to avoid the high cost of purchasing a new server and has also subsequently reduced the burden of continual maintenance. Now, employees can easily and securely share files and collaborate across all 12 of the Unison branch locations.

Cantium provided the Maidstone branch of Unison with their Microsoft Office 365 cloud-based solution. This allowed Unison to help their growing business run more efficiently and securely. Moving forward, we continue to set-up any new users and manage their Office 365 subscription. We also provide reactive support for their PCs and peripherals. As an IT customer of Cantium, all Unison staff members are supported by our highly trained, experienced and helpful service desk personnel who are on hand to resolve any issues swiftly and professionally.
