DBS Check

With the ever-changing news about the COVID-19 outbreak, many organisations are seeing a huge increase in demand for additional DBS checks. Employers within the healthcare profession for example, are starting to recruit large numbers of staff and volunteers to help them deal with the national crisis.

Whilst the government have managed to recruit 35,000 more NHS staff to help with the fight against coronavirus, Health Secretary, Matt Hancock recently called for 250,000 volunteers to help the NHS during the pandemic. In the space of 48 hours, over 500,000 people had already signed up, but for certain roles, volunteers will also need an enhanced DBS check.

Care providers across the UK are struggling to maintain staffing levels, with some homes reporting that about one-fifth of their staff are already off sick, according to the National Care Association.

The Department for Education (DfE) has published new coronavirus guidance for education settings, urging all childcare providers to ‘work together’ and consider sharing resources to keep settings open for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers.

Childcare providers who are experiencing staff shortages should work with their local authority to identify how appropriate provision can be put in place. They can pool staff from another location or take on qualified and DBS-checked staff from another educational setting. However, there are still the issues around the logistics of DBS checks and accountability.

What Are Cantium Doing to Support Business with their DBS Checks

Employmentcheck is an online system for processing DBS and Basic Disclosures, provided by Cantium Business Solutions. Operating across the UK, Employmentcheck has many years of experience in the Disclosure and Barring field. Our public sector heritage means we have a long list of public sector customers already utilising our services.

At Cantium, we recognise that a significant number of our clients operate in the above sectors and, in these challenging times, will need to onboard new staff as quickly as possible. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have had a number of enquiries from organisations who require assistance in processing their DBS checks online, this is either because their current paper process is not working remotely, or they require additional support to process a large quantity of additional DBS checks.

Cantium are committed to supporting your business and measures have been taken to ensure we can efficiently support organisations in processing large volumes of DBS checks and maintain our high standard of service to our customers.

We will continue to work closely with the DBS to stay up to date with the changes to their operations in response to the situation. Recent changes to ID checking guidelines will also aid in speeding up the process, with a more relaxed approach to ID verification allowing DBS checks to be processed remotely. With the measures we have taken, we believe we will be in a position to meet the increase in demand for the foreseeable future.

We are committed to supporting both public and private sector organisations in meeting their DBS requirements.
