Device Rollouts for Public Sector Modernisation
In our latest podcast, we delve into the recent device rollout project we undertook for Kent County Council (KCC). Our host Matt Cooper, Technical Account Director at Cantium, speaks with Chris Bruce, Cantium’s Programme Manager, shedding light on our approach, challenges and the objectives we aimed to achieve.
We kicked off the episode with an overview of the device rollout project, explaining that it was initiated in response to KCC’s need to refresh outdated laptops and transition to a more modern infrastructure. Our team recognised the importance of aligning with Microsoft standards, which naturally guided our integration of cloud management, Autopilot and Intune into the project framework. This innovative direction aimed to create a more efficient and effective workspace for KCC staff.
A key aspect of our success was our focus on developing a bespoke solution tailored specifically for KCC. Chris explains how we meticulously integrated various components, such as VPN solutions and customised policies, to ensure that the technology fit seamlessly into KCC’s operational needs. This tailored approach not only improved functionality, but also ensured a smoother user experience for all KCC staff involved in the rollout.
The user-centric approach is discussed at length, with Chris highlighting KCC’s active role in managing the rollout process. By making the user experience a central focus, we aimed to facilitate a transition that was not just technological but also emotionally supportive for KCC's staff.
We also articulate the numerous benefits that the device rollout offered. Beyond the immediate upgrades in hardware and software, Chris points out significant improvements in productivity and a reduction in management complexity. The modern service model we provided was closely aligned with user needs, fostering a better overall work environment.
Finally, we share key advice for other councils embarking on similar tech refresh projects. Chris passionately advises on the importance of thorough planning, focusing on priorities and partnering with experienced providers. Having applications ready and a holistic solution in place is not just advisable but essential for the success of any tech initiative
By sharing our experiences, we hope to inspire other organisations to adopt technology updates that cater to their specific requirements, all while enhancing user experiences and improving overall efficiency. This podcast reflects our dedication to innovation and teamwork in the realm of public service technology.
